Taites an EC-ing Bambino
9.19.2007

Taite is now almost 9 months old... wow that went fast!
Since he was about 4 months I started working on him with a technique called EC-ing. Some people call it "Infant Potty Training."
I started this while living w/ my parents... They of course thought I was nutso. My mom not so much... my dad... would just say "Oh gosh not again" any time he'd walk in on me putting my lil newborn on a toilet haha.
Here we are though just a few months later with a baby who knows what to do.
Taite KNOWS when you sit him on the potty and make a soft "pssss..." noise that he needs to push. Its almosts instant!
The way I did this was...
I watched him carefully.. any time he strained.. tooted... or got really still I knew he was working on a bomb.
I would then rush to the nearest potty (even in public!)... sit him down and start making that "psss.." noise.
And...
HE'D GO!
Not every time... but majority of the time he would... and if he didnt you'd hear him atleast try to push something out.
We have our misses.
If I leave him in the playroom for any amount of time and dont monitor him... he may have an accident... but as long as im with him I can catch them.
What I find works for us is as soon as Taite wakes I put him on the potty (unless hes starving - in the mornings)... Almost always after a nap he'll go.
Other times its usually when hes eating that he has to go.
I encourage you mamas... if you have a baby try it! The earlier the better.
Im so glad I did... I thought my friend Lis was NUTS when she told me about this... but it really does work.. and Taite is so much happier when he doesnt have to sit in a soiled diaper. As well as his mama who doesnt have to wash out dirty cloth diapers.
Oh and as you can see... in the photo of Taite and I.
This is how I usually sit him... Its easier for me and him if I support him with my legs like this. We have a Baby Bjorn Litty Potty as well.. he uses it occasionally.. but he actually prefers the normal toilet over that one now.
*Oh and my dad took that photo while they were visiting this weekend ;-) he laughed of course and said "Oh no... not again" HAHAHA*
Happy EC-ing! :-)
Oh! and dont forget the giveaway for a baby carrier is up at "DE Reviews"

I ♥ ♥ ♥ ECing!
No messy squished up poop in my daughters creases!!! She NOW goes up and hits the potty when she needs to go. (NOT always...)
Sincerely Elizabeth, mom of 14mo DD that hasn't done number 2 in a diaper but 3X in 2 months!
i LOVE this photo. we have tried it too. hoping to be more consistant. thanks for sharing. seriously the cutest photo ever.
Yes i used to do that with aidan!! But never stayed consitant resulting in a 2 year old really not likeing the potty!!
For my next one i will be more consistant cause i believe in it as well. i have family who have done it and worked swell!!
Burgers go boo boo! Love the blue tiles in your bathroom and your new blog design looks great!
My son is 10 months old.....could I start now..?? I know you started earlier.....Would it still work to start now?
I know!! It REALLY works!! I didn't start as early as I should (boohoo!) but I did start before Tate was 1 yr. and it only took him 2 weeks to figure it out! Now I just have to get the poop in the potty instead of the diaper...haven't quite been successful with that one yet! :)
I didn't know anyone who did that, but I'm glad you're blogging about it. I had read other people brushing it off as if the parents are the ones trained. So what. If it makes life easier, do it!
I meant to say: I didn't know anyone who did that when my kids were small enough to do it.
For those who missed out (including me), your kids will eventually use the toilet, don't worry.
Thanks for sharing a positiv ECing exprerience, I love it too. Rebekah goes for a bout 8 hour without dipaers and I got only a few accident not to bad!
Good for you! I found out about EC when my boy was almost seven months old and figured I might be too late. But I'm thinking about introducing him to the toilet soon anyway.
